Open boat tuna trips are scheduled to depart from our 1 Parker St location at 6:00 AM and return at 3:00PM. The crew may make the decision to return later depending on tide cycles and of course if a fish is being fought.
The Yankee Pearl is a 6 passenger vessel and we ask passengers to be mindful of the limited space, please bring no more than 1 small bag like a lunchbox or backpack per person; these items can be stored in the cabin. The boat will have several coolers full of ice on board, please leave your coolers in your vehicles we need to preserve enough room on the deck to work and fight a fish.
All rods, tackle, and fishing gear will be on the boat, and when a fish gets hooked the crew will rotate customers through fighting a fish. All passengers please adhere to the instructions of the crew members.
The Yankee Pearl targets BLUEFIN tuna, do not confuse this fishery with yellowfin; bluefin tuna is the same fishery seen on the popular tv show “Wicked Tuna.” The vessel crew would be placing up to 4 rods in the water, determining what bait to use, and what depth to set the gear at. Customers will NOT be individually using their own rod. Hook ups occur when one of the multiple rods that are deployed gets hit and at the time the additional rods are quickly reeled in. The crew see that all passengers partake in reeling in the bluefin.
Fishing for bluefin tuna involves the crew getting set up at very specific locations and waiting for a bite, the captain will move the vessel very little or not at all waiting for a bite. The action is intense when a fish is hooked up.
Recreational bluefin tuna is currently closed for the remainder of the 2025 season and recreational size fish cannot be kept. Open boat tuna trips will be run on Sundays which is a day that allows for the retention of commercial sized fish, commercial size fish must be sold – these are fish that measure 73” or greater. Open boat tuna trips are the chance to land a giant.
In the event a commercial size tuna is caught and sold each customer will receive future credit to fish with Yankee Fleet again on any of our offered fishing trips (up to approximately 4-5% of the total value of the fish per customer); the value of this will not exceed the cost of the trip. Pricing and payout of a bluefin tuna can take several weeks and the value of these fish varies quite a bit.
Different species of shark can also be caught during these trips, some of which are allowed to be retained and taken home as food.
